Homestead Update – October 2022

Hi Friends!

So much has been happening over the last few months—we thought it would be great to catch you all up and fill you all in on all the latest news. The most exciting news of all is that we currently have happy, healthy and socialized puppies available for adoption to great homes. It’s been an especially rewarding process raising and working with this group of puppies because my children are a bit older and can be much more involved. This has been beneficial to our children but also to the puppies, who get extra experience being socialized and will surely make excellent family dogs.

CREAMY GOLDENS
As you’ll notice—many of our current goldens are a white/cream color rather than a red. We get a lot of requests for reds and questions about why we don’t currently have reds available. The answer is simple: we put the dogs first. If I can’t provide a truly healthy dog when it comes to their genetic line, it just isn’t fair to breed them. Right now, many of the reds have genetic hip issues, which is a hard thing for a dog (and a family) to go through. Our creams have strong genetic lines that help deter these issues, allowing us to breed these lines and produce truly healthy and happy puppies.
We won’t breed dogs just  because they are in demand. If breeding sacrifices true health and puts a dog at risk—it just simply shouldn’t be done. This is a key difference of responsible breeding and one that we will always take to heart.
Around here, we’ll always focus on purebred pet breeding, but we will continue to look for the right red golden retrievers to do this with as we carefully select our Dahlia’s Goldens family.

AN UNWAIVERING EMPHASIS ON HEALTH
Creating a healthy, purebred family of dogs is no small task. We use our years of experience and emphasis on health to work toward this accomplishment one step at a time. Our ending goal is to responsibly produce a small number of purebred puppies each season, and to find the very best homes for these deserving companions. You’ll never see Dahlia’s Goldens offer more than a few dogs—we are dedicated to remaining a small, responsible backyard breeder.

PRICING REDUCTIONS
Right now, if you’re looking for a life-changing, furry companion, it’s a great time to think about meeting and purchasing one! Due to the current saturation in the puppy market and the higher cost of living all around, we’ve made the choice of lowering prices with the goal of finding our puppies great homes. As of October 2022, we’ve reduced adoption costs from $2,900 to $1,600 to make puppies more accessible to families who truly deserve them. As always, we’re still only selling directly— because we care about making sure these puppies get into good hands. That means we like to meet anyone interested in purchasing one, and first offer them a meet-and-greet at our homestead. We do not (and will not) ship puppies.
Look for photos of our latest litter online—they are (as always) absolutely adorable! These dogs are designed to be beloved family pets and have very individual, beautiful personalities. As always, reach out at any time for information on planning a meet-up. We’d love to show the puppies to anyone who is looking for a truly special companion. Give us a call to set something up today! Wishing you all a wonderful and fruitful fall season.
