Here are brief descriptions of the tests listed. You can find more extensive information on the various tests here.
Confirms that the dog’s hips are well-formed and congruent, and that the dog does not show indicators of future or current hip dysplasia.
Eye certification indicates that the dog’s eyes are in good health and found free of observable inherited eye disease.
Checks for indications of congenital and acquired heart disease, and certifies that the heart is in good health.
Certifies that the dog’s elbow joints are in good health and found free of signs of any developmental abnormalities that could give rise to osteoarthritic processes.
Evaluates the overall thyroid health of the dog to determine if it seems normal. **This certification is not critical for goldens.
This is also a test for progressive retinal atrophy and progressive rod-cone degeneration in the dog’s eyes. As the disease progresses, dogs can go blind over time. A good score on this tests helps to ensure that the dog’s eyes are not predisposed to having any of these issues.
Can identify progressive retinal atrophy affected and carrier dogs based on DNA collected from a cheek swab, dogs showing no signs of this trait will not pass it along to puppies.
Another test for progressive retinal atrophy that can help determine both affective dogs and carrier dogs. Those showing no signs of the trait are unable to pass it along to their puppies.
A degenerative myelopathy test checks for characteristics of this inherited recessive disorder which causes gradual paralysis in many dog breeds. This test indicates whether or not the dog is a carrier of this genotype.
Identifies dogs that may be susceptible to Ichthyosis, a skin disease. Dogs passing this certification should not exhibit signs of this skin condition.
A dog’s pedigree is its recorded ancestry and helps to show where the dog came from. It can establish the dog as a pure breed and show that it comes from good genetics.
The purpose of the DNA certification is proof of parentage, identification and ownership.
